So I was stumbling about the Web recently, and came across a BMI chart that told me I was not just overweight, but borderline obese.
Of course it was a shock initially. I mean, I wouldn't really peg myself as any different than my skinny friends.
I shop with the normal people at GAP, eat like normal people (if anybody in college is normal... debatable) and occasionally get carried home by friends (no comment on the involvement of alcohol). A fair amount of men are attracted to me, I do have a gym membership, and my blood pressure is normal. All said, I lead a pretty amazing life.
So that's when it came to me. If this is what being fat means in 21st century America, I love it!
I really do value the fact that I'm overweight. I'm tired of "chubby", "big boned", "topheavy" and all the rest of your euphanisms. I'm a fatty and I love it!
A significant portion of Americans are overweight, and I think our segment of the population needs to stop trying to attain the ridiculous standards of health care professionals and what I'll term Skinny America. We're here and we're special, right?
There are some cultural things that should bond us and make us a strong, proud community. What are these, you ask? They'll be detailed soon, in this blog.
And so it is, on this Fat Tuesday, that I bring you Fatty Culture... a blog for the big fish in mainstream America.
